All right listener, today’s podcast theme as we near the end of the year is this, persist and recalibrate. And I don’t know what your situation is, maybe you want a better job opportunity. Maybe you’re not respected at work, or you were just laid off. If you’re listening to this, you probably want something different. And for that reason I wanted to share with you one of the greatest gifts I’ve been made aware of in my own life. And it’s what I hope to impart to you right now, as you listen to these words, persist and recalibrate. I remembered a word 10 years ago, when I was studying to get my degree in Hotel Management. This was a big moment. And when I realized I needed the strength, I would receive some pretty poor grades in the beginning, which came as a result of not knowing what the heck I was doing, and probably a little too much partying. But after my pity party and one too many C’s and DS, I decided to speak to my professors with one question in mind, what can I do better next time.
This is the main reason why the second half of my schooling was like the day compared to the night of my first two years. And this was the main thing that started me on my manifesto to err on the side of never giving up even when I probably should have a few times.
Persist and recalibrate.
Flash forward to 2017. When I wanted to build this big, massive resume writing business, I made this big gesture to quit in front of my family and friends and to pursue my dream full time. But I ended up driving for Uber instead for 30 plus hours a week just so I can make ends meet. Yes, the business did not grow as quickly as I thought it would. And it was painstaking work to do those drives every single morning, I had to get up early, and then do the resume business and then drive some more just because that was how I can make ends meet. I remember telling my best friend that June and 2017 that it was almost all over. I was sick and tired of the drives. And I just wanted to get a real job. I stuck day in and day out even when I was bored even when sales were zero. And even when I didn’t feel like working. And I just kept doing what I felt like would help with all of this. Now we’re listed over the internet as one of the top resume services. And we’ve had 1000s of paying clients. I have several happy full time employees. One of them is my brother and co founder. But most of all, I get to do what I was meant to do, which was create beautiful experiences from scratch online, on my own terms. So I asked you today, what desires have God placed on your own heart, ask and will be given to you seek and you will find knock and the door will be open to you. I guarantee you, if these desires have been placed on your heart, and you persist and recalibrate, two things are going to happen. Either you’re going to achieve exactly what you set out to do. Or you’ll be completely surprised with something even better believe this from the bottom of my heart. And I’ve seen it time and time again. Now to talk about what recalibration means. I’ll tell you that persistence by itself isn’t always the answer. For some people it is because yeah, you may be doing the right thing right now. And you just need to be patient until your results come. But for others, they they need to do a little bit of fine tuning and their strategy because working hard and not working smart is the quickest way to run yourself around in circles, and possibly straight to the ground until you burn out. If it’s not working, if whatever you’re doing is not giving you the results that you want. Ask what do you need to change right now in order to get what you need? Who do we need to talk to? And for job seekers? If you’re trying to get somewhere and you’re not getting any results after time? It’s often one of two things.
Number one, how do I look on paper and number 2am? I clear enough with what I want. When we talk about how we look on paper. Oftentimes we don’t have a strong resume or we may not have the interview skills or that surface level stuff that gets us noticed. And so what I would ask you is what resources can you look up online right now this doesn’t have to be paid. This can be any sort of information online that will help you to get your resume cover letter or interview skills in shape. How do we look on paper? What can I do to improve my brand at the surface level? figured out the second bucket that I often would tell people
to look into is, am I clear enough with what I want, you may be applying for jobs that you have no business applying for, not because you’re not qualified for them. That’s not what I’m saying. But just because they suck, because they’re not good jobs. Maybe it’s what you’ve been doing for the last five to 10 years, and you’re just used to applying to jobs like this. And you really want to get out at the end of the day. Or maybe you’re applying for companies that just don’t really excite you. And this is showing up whenever you go and talk to somebody during an interview. So get clear. Just take the time to figure out what you want, and you’re gonna save yourself so much time in the long run. So that’s my message to leave you with today is persist and recalibrate. And I promise you will achieve those results that you’ve been striving for. Or you’ll get something even better I promise you
